The U.S. government in May ended the COVID public health emergency declaration during which it bought the shots and provided them to all Americans for free. In the current privatized system, health insurance plans by law must cover the shots at no cost. McKesson (MCK.N), one of the largest U.S. wholesalers, said it has distributed over 3.8 million shots so far. "Health insurance providers continue to educate Americans about where and how to get their COVID vaccines within their plan’s coverage," David Allen, a spokesperson for insurance lobby group AHIP said. Now that the government is no longer footing the bill for their vaccine supply, pharmacy owners need to pay for the shots.

New York is filled with signs advertising cash in exchange for diabetic test strips. The whole thing is absurd to the rappers Billy Woods and Elucid of Armand Hammer. Over the past few years, the prolific Woods has become one of rap’s most popular indie voices. Elucid, a poet, producer and M.C., has been turning out sonically challenging work that can best be classified as art-rap. Their music harks back to the mid-1990s era of New York rap, when the topics were bleak and the beats were sullen.

September has been unkind to stocks – living up to its historical reputation as the weakest month for the S & P 500 . Still, some Club stocks have been able to buck the downward trend since the start of the month — and none more so than Humana (HUM). The health insurer advanced 7.3% through Friday's close, putting it among the top-10 performing stocks in the S & P 500 over that stretch. In a year largely characterized by outperformance in technology stocks, health care has been one of the worst S & P 500 sectors . The stock entered Monday's session down more than 11% in 2023, the third-worst of any Club stock.

Some are being told they need to pay more than $100 out of pocket because their insurance provider isn't covering the shots yet. Most Walgreens stores have enough supply for existing appointments and more slots are being made available as the shots come in, a spokesperson said. Previously, the government purchased the shots and distributed them to pharmacies, doctor's offices and other providers. That leaves pharmacies like his fielding calls and explaining they can't administer shots yet if they wanted to. A notice on Walgreens' website said appointments for children under 12 years old won't start until Friday, Sept. 29.

Getty Images / Michael BucknerWarren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway established stakes in a trio of homebuilders last quarter: Lennar, NVR, and DR Horton. The positions were worth a combined $814 million — a small bet in the context of Berkshire's roughly $350 billion stock portfolio. Buffett's portfolio managers, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler, were likely behind the purchases given their size. On the other hand, it exited its wagers on McKesson, Marsh & McLennan, and Vitesse Energy in the period. Buffett and his team also pared their positions in Activision Blizzard, Chevron, Celanese, General Motors, and Globe Life.

Bob Doll thinks a mild recession will hit the US economy sometime in the near-to-mid future. Outside of the stock market, Doll also thinks bonds are relatively attractive compared to last year. Within the bond market, he likes Treasurys most, with 10-year yields offering more than a 4% coupon. A 1.5% 10-year Treasury is a bad deal, and of course bonds have sold off hard," he said. Treasury bonds can be bought via a brokerage or through TreasuryDirect.

Aug 15 (Reuters) - Drug distributor Cardinal Health Inc (CAH.N) on Tuesday raised fiscal 2024 expectations for sales at its pharmaceutical unit, banking on growing demand for newer weight-loss drugs, including GLP-1 treatments. Cardinal peers AmerisourceBergen (ABC.N) and McKesson (MCK.N) have also flagged a potential boost to revenues for drug distributors due to high demand for these drugs. It now expects revenue from its pharmaceuticals unit to rise 10% to 12% in fiscal 2024, compared with its previous expectation of about 10% growth. It raised its 2024 profit forecast slightly to a range of $6.50 to $6.75 per share, from $6.45 to $6.70 it had forecast previously. Excluding one-off items, Cardinal Health reported a profit of $1.55 per share in the fourth quarter ended June 30, topping expectations of $1.49 per share.

Andreas Halvorsen's Viking Global Investors took new positions in Lululemon Athletica and Sherwin-Williams in the first quarter, according to the hedge fund's latest 13F filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Fellow hedge fund manager Dan Sundheim of DQ Capital Partners dumped his entire holding in Sherwin-Williams in the first quarter. A 46% increase to Halvorsen's McKesson stake put the stock in the number two slot among his biggest holdings, at $1.14 billion. Of Halvorsen's top 10 holdings, all were increased stakes in the quarter besides Amazon, which was cut almost 40%. Correction: A previous version misstated Viking Global's actions in the first quarter as a result of an incorrect quarterly comparison.
"We were shocked," a former employee in Truepill's business development division said of the layoffs. Insider spoke with five former and two current Truepill employees about the challenges the company is confronting after a tumultuous year. Truepill was hiring employees rapidly, accumulating about 1,800 employees by the spring of 2022, according to one former employee in Truepill's business division. Since then, there's been a companywide push to inch closer to profitability, one of the current employees told Insider. It's also downsizing its Miami pharmacy, the current employee said.

With only a small fraction of the S & P 500 left to report quarterly earnings, investors are now turning their focus to another major hurdle for the markets and economy: the debt ceiling crisis. Earlier this week, we looked back to debt limit crisis of 2011 for potential lessons. The protracted fight ultimately ended in an agreement in early August of that year, but it was a choppy summertime ride for investors. Within the portfolio, Wynn Resorts will report Tuesday, after the closing bell, and Disney will report on Wednesday, after the closing bell. Estee Lauder (EL) and Emerson Electric (EMR) reported earnings before the opening bell.
Analysts are bullish on some of the stocks owned by Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway . Still, some of the "Oracle of Omaha's" stocks are also well liked by analysts on Wall Street. CNBC Pro looked through his portfolio to find companies that met the following criteria: 55% or more of the analysts covering the stocks have a buy rating. Topping the list is Taiwan Semiconductor , with 83% of analysts rating it as buy and the average price target pointing to upside of 25%. The stock has buy ratings from 55.6% of analysts covering it, and the average price target suggests it could go up 40%.
For the immediate economic and earnings and growth outlook, it almost seems irrelevant whether regional bank stocks rally, steady or sell off more next week. Regional banks were top of mind for investors this past week, as First Republic failed , the SPDR S & P Regional Banking ETF tumbled more than 10% — twice the five-day loss in the S & P 500 Energy Index, the hardest hit S & P sector — and lenders such as PacWest Bancorp and Western Alliance Bancorp lost billions in market value. And, for all that, the S & P 500 only fell about 0.75% this week. Now the conventional wisdom on Wall Street is that regardless of how the regional bank stocks trade, it's a given that bank lending officers are going to pull in their horns and risk management desks will grow more risk averse. But stocks still face a host of issues, none of which are going away next week.
The S & P 500 is "supported" by just seven mega-cap tech stocks right now — and it's starting to look a lot like the 1990s tech bubble, one analyst told CNBC on Wednesday. "The S & P 500 [is being] supported by a few expensive mega cap techs," said Eric Lynch, managing director of Scharf Investments. Seven companies — Apple , Microsoft , Nvidia , Meta , Tesla , Amazon and Alphabet — account for 95% of the S & P 500's total return in the first quarter, he noted. "To us this looks a lot like the tech bubble in 1990s when tech gave the world massive outperformance over value, over mid cap small caps, international stocks," he told CNBC's " Street Signs Asia. " Stock picks Lynch named three stocks he said are cheap right now.
